Additional Key Tryout Information

Tryout scores are based on mechanics and fundamentals more than pure results. For example, a player who tracks a fly ball perfectly and then drops it will likely receive a better score than a player who struggles to track the ball, and then makes a lucky diving grab.

Check-in and Warmups - Tryouts will be closed to spectators and player check-in / drop-off will be near Field 5 for Round 1.  You will receive specific check-in information for Round 2 upon confirmation of tryout pool (on or after Wednesday 9/27.)  Once your player has been checked in, please plan to leave the field for the duration of their tryout. Check-in will open 30 minutes prior to the start of tryouts.

Attire - Players should wear baseball appropriate clothing, including full length pants (no shorts).   Tryouts are the few days each year we ask players to not wear Millers gear.  We ask that returning players not wear attire that has a MYBA logo on it, including baseball caps, jersey, etc... To minimize bias, your child will not be permitted to wear any piece of their Millers uniform, or a shirt with their name on it.  Cleats are recommended but not required.

Equipment - Each player should have their own bat, helmet, glove and water bottle.  Male players are required to wear a protective cup. If your family does not have a full set of baseball equipment, please contact registrar@mplsmillers.org  ASAP to request borrowing gear.  Catchers who have their own gear should bring it to Round 2 tryouts.  We will have additional sets of catcher’s gear to use at tryouts for those who indicate an interest in catching.

Illness or Injury – If your player is ill or has cold / flu / COVID-like symptoms please keep them home.   Contact registrar@mplsmillers.org if your player will be missing tryouts due to illness or injury.

Requests for Refunds - The team formation committee will begin their work on Tuesday, October 3rd.  For this reason, if your player has decided the Millers travel program isn’t the right fit, you must notify us at registrar@mplsmillers.org by 5:00pm on Tuesday, 10/3 to receive a refund for your commitment fee. If your player withdraws from the program once team formation has begun, you will forfeit your commitment fee.  There are extreme instances when refunds are allowed - i.e. family moves out of Mpls, injury that will prevent a player from participating in the season, etc…  However, not agreeing with your player’s team placement, not having any friends on the team, other time commitments, etc… are not considered valid reasons for a refund.  Please be sure your player wants to play with us regardless of their team placement prior to 10/3.

Families will receive detailed information about second round tryouts, including group assignments by Wednesday, 9/27

Not sure what age-group your child should play with?  Click here to see our Age Guidelines for the 2024 season.
